Truro is the County town of Cornwall and is well worth a visit whether you're in Cornwall for a weekend break or are planning a longer Cornish holiday.
Truro has good shopping facilities including the major chains like M&S, W H Smith, HMV and TKMaxx. There's also an abundance of independent local retailers which gives Truro a special character that seems to be fast disappearing from the high streets of many other UK cities and towns.
As you'd expect, Truro has its fair share of surf shops. You'll find Ripcurl and Cornwall Sports on Lemon Quay, River Street and Kenwyn Street (see map) are also worth a visit for surf equipment and clothing.
The recently rebuilt Lemon Street Market is home to an art gallery, two cafés and a variety of interesting shops.
Opportunities for eating out in Truro have expanded hugely in recent years and there's no shortage of high quality restaurants offering good food in comfortable surroundings.
Zafiros in New Bridge Street is a family-friendly restaurant by day and after dark transforms into a vibrant bar. Other excellent dining experiences aren't hard to find, all within a short walk of each other. Try Stingi Lulu's, Mannings, Chantek , or Bustophers.
The Hall for Cornwall provides a diverse programme that has included the Rambert Dance Company, the Royal Shakespeare Company and Coldplay.
Truro Cathedral is situated right in the heart of the city at High Cross, you can get times of services, details of guided tours and other information from the Cathedral website -you'll find a link on the High Cross, or any of the other cathedral panorama pages.
You'll find the Royal Cornwall Museum, with both permanent and temporary collections of Cornish archaeology, social history, geology and art, in River Street.
