Polruan 'Castle' is a blockhouse, one of two coastal
defences that were built in the 15th Century. A chain, which linked
this blockhouse to the one on the opposite bank, was raised to prevent
hostile ships sailing up river and attacking Fowey and Polruan.
From here you get a spectacular view of the river across to Fowey and the estuary as it opens out into the Atlantic.
