Upper gun room
The upper gun room at St Mawes was designed to defend the castle against infantry attack. Like the forward gun room, the windows have been designed with built-in gunsmoke vents.
The room was design for the use of hand guns and small arms such as bows, early muskets and breech-loading cannon like the one displayed in the alcove nearest you.
Stairs from here lead to the roof, from which there's a spectacular view.
