Truro Cathedral was built on the site of the Parish Church of St Mary. The foundation stone was laid on 20th May 1880. It was the first cathedral to be built on a new site since Salisbury in 1220. The present 14th Bishop of Truro is Bishop Bill Ind
You are standing underneath the hanging baskets (look up!) in High Cross, facing the west aspect of the Cathedral. The building on the North side, to your left is the Old Assembly rooms, built in 1780 and now a bakers. Zoom in (press shift) to take a closer look at the two busts above the first floor windows. The one on the left is the actor and theatrical producer David Garrick, on the right is William Shakespeare.
