The Italian Garden was the first major restoration project at Heligan. Previously known as 'The Suntrap' it was specifically designed to catch the mid-day sun.
The original features and plants have been restored to their original condition. It was known from archive photographs that there was a statue of a boy with a dolphin at the centre of the pond, but when the garden was discovered this was knowhere to be found. In 2000 a replacement, Pluto with a Dolphin, was sourced from a foundry in Florence, possibly cast from the same mould as the original.
