New Panoramas
Hotel Tresanton, St Mawes

The Tresanton is one of Cornwall's most famous hotels and when you see these panoramas you'll understand why. The rooms are beautifully decorated and furnished and the sea views are stunning.

New Panoramas update
We've been a bit slack and haven't updated the news page as regularly as we'd like. In part, this is due to the fact that we now send out an email newsletter to subscribers whenever we add panoramas or make other changes and addition to the site. If you want to subscribe click here.

In the past few weeks we've added a number of new panoramas. Some of these, including Truro's Lemon Street Market, Pannier Market, Charlotte's Tea Rooms and Zafiros form part of our new Truro virtual tour.

New Panorama
Carnglaze Caverns

Our first panorama of the new year, Carnglaze Caverns has to be one of the most amazing underground sites to be found anywhere in Cornwall. The Navy used to store rum there, but unfortunately there was none to be found when we visited to shoot this panorama of the lower cavern which is 60 metres below the surface. You can see the lit staircase by which you descend directly ahead in the opening view of the panorama. There's also a underground lake with the most incredibly clear blue water you've ever seen. The boat's purely for maintainance, by the way, so don't get any ideas.

Goodbye feedback
Our feedback page is no more :( The daily task of clearing it of bucketloads of accumulated spam proved too much of a chore. Looking on the bright side, we are in no doubt about where we need to go to purchase viagra or look at people having fun without their clothes on. If you are overcome with the desire to tell us how much you love the site, do send us an email.

New Panorama
Mousehole Harbour Christmas lights

Mousehole looks great at any time of the year, but at Christmas it's a very special place to be. Our latest panorama puts you right in the middle of the Christmas illuminations that surround the harbour, You can't miss the whale, keep an eye out too for the famous Mousehole cat and Stargazey pie.

Home page redesign
When lookaroundcornwall was launched the priority was to create an interface that would allow easy navigation to all the panoramas on the site. We felt the best way to do this was via an interactive map which showed the location of each panorama, so you could see where you were going before you got there, so to speak.

One of the problems with the interactive map was that it occupied virtually the entire page, leaving little room for anything else. We've now incorporated the map into the panorama preview window - it appears when you mouse over the preview. This is a much more compact and elegant arrangement which leaves plenty of space below for us to tell you about other things. It also makes us more visible to Google and other search engines for whom Flash is a bit of a black hole.

New panoramas
Eden Project

We're very pleased to announce the addition of four new panoramas to Lookaround Cornwall featuring the Eden Project. The panoramas show the Outdoor Biome, the Humid Tropics Biome, the Warm Temperate Biome and Eden's new education centre, The Core. No visit to, or holiday in Cornwall would be complete without a trip to Eden, now you can see what a treat you are in for before you arrive.

Hear the Choir sing!
We've added audio to the Truro Cathedral Choir panorama. It's called The Silver Swan. You can hear more of the Cathedral Choir's music on the Truro Cathedral website here.

If you have time, please leave a comment on our feedback page. We'd love to know what you think about the site, what you found interesting and your ideas for new panoramas.

Panorama page redesign
While we had our designer hats on we also took a good look at the panorama pages to see how they could be improved. Apparently, not everyone realises that you can look around by dragging with your mouse inside the picture. Here at lookaroundcornwall we've been doing this for so long it seems as natural as walking, or riding a bike, or throwing a fris... you get the idea, but to people who don't spend all their time in front of a computer (probably too busy walking, riding bikes and playing frisbee) it's not at all obvious.

So we've added a controller at the bottom of the panoramas on the right, which allows you to do all of the stuff you can do by dragging, or using the keyboard - that's pan left and right, up and down, and zoom in and out. You can also use the controller to autorotate the panorama, which is cool, and for panoramas with audio, a mute button will appear on the controller so that your colleagues won't know you're planning where to visit while you're visiting Cornwall on holiday, instead of getting on with your work.

Interactive map redesign
Those of you who have visited before will notice that we've made a few changes to the home page interactive map, or 'panoramarama' as we like to call it. The main difference is that, instead of the dissolve transition that changes the active panorama in the viewport when you mouse over a yellow dot on the map, there is now a swishy, dynamic, wipe kind of thing going on. This looks better and works much quicker than the old one (and is more fun!). In the very near future the home page will be undergoing more changes, so be sure to check back regularly.

New Panorama
Truro Cathedral and Choir

We've added a third panorama of the cathedral to the two already on the site. This one shows the interior of this magnificant building with the cathedral choir at practice. We hope you'll agree that the view is stunning. It sounds amazing too, and in the near future we hope to be adding some audio to this page, so you'll be able to hear the choir, as well as see it.
You can get to this panorama from the 'Panoramas near here' strip on the High Cross, St Mary's Aisle, or Boscawen Street panoramas.

Feedback
We'd really like to know what you think about lookaroundcornwall.com. So why not leave us a comment on the feedback page? If you know of a location that would make a great panorama, have any other ideas for how we could improve the site, or if you've found something that doesn't work the way it should, or the way you expected, you can let us know here.

New Panorama
King Harry Ferry

We're really excited about this one. The new King Harry ferry crosses the River Fal from Trellisick to Philleigh. If you plan on visiting the Smugglers cottage, this is the best way to get there. The new design means you get a stunning view of the river and surrounding countryside whether you stay in your car, or go up on the observation deck, from where this panorama was shot.

27.09.06
New Panorama
Chapel Porth

Chapel Porth is a small cove situated between St Agnes to the North and Porthtowan to the south, both of which can be reached on foot across the clifftops on the South West Coast Path. At low tide you can walk along the beach to Porthtowan which is about a kilometre away and takes about fifteen minutes at a leisurely stroll - be careful not to get cut off by the incoming tide! Our new Chapel Porth Panorama takes you inside one of the caves carved out of the cliff face by the relentless power of the sea. We hope you'll agree it's an interesting experience.

16.09.06
New Panorama
Boscawen Street

The War memorial forms the centrepiece of our new Boscawen Street panorama. You can also see the site of the former Coinage Hall (now Pizza Express and Charlotte's Tea Rooms), City Hall, Woolworths and, in fact, anything you'd be able to see were you standing there yourself. We've also added links between this one and the other two Truro panoramas - St Mary's Aisle and High Cross - producing a sort of mini virtual tour. We plan to add more Truro panoramas soon so be sure to check back regularly.

15.09.06
New Panorama
High Cross

High Cross adds a second panorama of Truro Cathedral. The orginal Truro Cathedral panorama shows the view of St Mary's Aisle on the South side and the Cathedral View shops. The new Panorama is just as striking, providing a detailed view of the West aspect as well as the whole of High Cross including the Old Assembly Rooms and the no less striking Phones 4U shop.

02.09.06
New Panorama
Bedruthan Steps

Bedruthan Steps is one of the most spectacular spots on the North Cornwall coast and it was well worth the long climb down (and back up again) as well as getting our feet wet, to capture this stunning panorama. The weather wasn't ideal, with a storm threatening to blow in off the Atlantic, but we think that just adds to the atmosphere of this magical place.

28.08.06
New Panorama
Newlyn Trinity Methodist Chapel

Over the Bank holiday weekend we've added a new panorama to the site. Newlyn Trinity Methodist chapel is one of the best examples of early 19th century Methodist chapels in Cornwall. It's been featured on BBC2's Restoration Village series where it won the South West regional heat. Watch out for the live final at 9pm on September 17th, and don't forget to vote!

lookaroundcornwall.com goes live
At around mid day on Friday August 18th 2006 lookaroundcornwall.com went live for the first time. This is a 'pilot' site, we currently have six full-screen panoramas which you can view from the interactive map on the home page. As you can see from the home page map, we are hoping to include visitor attractions, hotels, restaurants, local events and shops. The common feature in all of these locations is that they offer a jaw-dropping view that wouldn't be done justice using conventional photography. We hope you'll agree that our panoramas manage to capture the stunning visual feast that these sites provide.

We will be adding more panoramas in the very near future. Cornwall has no shortage of beautiful landscapes and other places of interest to discover and explore and we hope you will share them with us.

Coming up
Over the course of the next few days, as well as some new panoramas, we'll be adding a feedback section to the site so that you can tell us what you think of the panoramas and let us know what you'd like to see on lookaroundcornwall.com.
