Porthcurno Telegraph Museum - Workshop

Cable stations, especially those overseas, were required to make many of their own spare parts. The Porthcurno Telegraph Museum's vintage workshop contains a wealth of old tools that volunteers still use to maintain and repair the equipment.

You can see some of them on the toolboard on the wall to the left. The drawer chests below would have contained spares and various expendable items and above them, running the length of the room, is the workbench used for making repairs. At the far end of the room is the test bench, used for testing instruments. On the desk you can see a telegraph typewriter which would have been used for typing telegrams.
