Porthcurno Telegraph Museum - Escape stairs
These escape stairs were built to provide an emergency exit from the tunnels in the event of enemy attack. There are 120 steps leading to the hilltop platform, from which you can see the valley. The thick steel doors were designed to withstand bomb blasts as well as gas attack. The sound you can hear is water seeping through the granite hills above and dripping on to the stairs.
