Truro Cathedral was built on the site of the Parish Church of St Mary. The
foundation stone was laid on 20th May 1880. It was the first cathedral to
be built on a new site since Salisbury in 1220.
You are standing underneath the hanging baskets (look up!)
in High Cross, facing the west aspect of the Cathedral. The building on
the North side, to the left of the cathedral, is the Old Assembly rooms, built in 1780 and
now a bakers. Zoom in (press shift) to take a closer look at the two busts
above the first floor windows. The one on the left is the actor and theatrical
producer David Garrick, on the right is William Shakespeare.
