The Sculptor Barbara Hepworth lived and worked in St Ives from 1949 until her death in 1975. Along with her husband, the painter Ben Nicholson, she was one of the community of artists that became known as the St Ives School.
Since 1980 Hepworth’s Trewyn Studios has been run by the Tate as the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden. We were privileged to be able to produce panoramas of the garden, in which Hepworth herself arranged the pieces and her stone-carving workshop, which remains as it was when she and her assistants worked there.
The workshop panorama provides a very real experience of this environment in which you can see the tools and materials used by Hepworth and her assistants and even their overalls hanging on the back of the door.
If you’re in St Ives don’t miss out on a fascinating glimpse into the life of one of the 20th Century’s great artists.

A fantastic article. I stumbled upon your blog when looking for info on Barbara Hepworth. From the photo you can really imagine her in there working on some of the best pieces of modern art ever created.
